Our Team

Christine Lacourse – Executive Director

Christine joined BBAHFH in November of 2009. She has an associate degree in Architectural Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. After years of working as a residential designer, she decided to use her current skill set while helping those in need. As the Executive Director of the affiliate, her responsibilities include grant writing and fundraising efforts, planning and coordinating of the builds, and committee oversight with efforts in land acquisition, volunteer engagement, family support and faith relations.

Kara B. Lees – President

Kara is a certified public accountant and is the Comptroller at Bridgewater State University which is based out of Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Kara has extensive experience in compliance with laws, regulations and reporting for non-profit and governmental entities. Kara has always believed in giving back to the community and feels honored to serve Habitat. She believes even the smallest token of outreach can impact the lives of many. At times when our country needs unity, Kara also feels that work that benefits a local community can lead to building a better future.

Leslie Piper – Vice President

Leslie is the Director of Music at St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church in Marion, MA, and the Founder and Artistic Director of the SouthCoast Children's Chorus. She received her BA in Religion from Hamilton College (NY), and her MA in Historical Musicology from Smith College (MA). She has taught music at all levels, from preschool through college, and was Director of Vocal Music in the Bloomfield Hills School District (Michigan) for ten years. She and her husband Geoffrey are the proud parents of Benjamin, Nathaniel and Katie, all of whom have spent time working with aid organizations both in the U.S. and abroad, and share her passion for service. She has served on the Board of the Marion Art Center, and is currently a member of the Rochester Cultural Council.

Patricia A. McArdle – Secretary / Land Aquisition

Patricia is an attorney who owns and operates the law office of Patricia A. McArdle & Associates, PC in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. She obtained her license to practice law in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in 2003. Her practice consists mostly of real estate acquisitions and development. She served on the Marion Planning Board for 6 years, and as the Marion Town Moderator for one year, before moving to Mattapoisett. In December 2017, she was appointed by Governor Charlie Baker to the Board of Directors for Mass Housing Finance Agency.

Julie Tomasso – Treasurer

Julie has been an assistant controller for over 10 years.  She received her bachelors in accounting and continued on to receive her MBA from Umass Dartmouth. She has two daughters and enjoys spending time with them and her family.  Julie enjoys volunteering.  She has been the Mattapoisett PTA Treasurer for 6 years, and volunteers with her children at local charity sights.

Margaret McSweeny – Volunteer Coordinator

Margaret is a lifelong resident of Marion. She is the Advancement Associate at Our Sisters' School, a tuition-free independent middle school for girls from low income families. She has a BA in religion from the University of Puget Sound and a MA in education from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She enjoys volunteering and giving back to the local community.

Joe Damasio – ReStore

Joe serves as the Vice President of Finance and CFO for Pressure BioSciences, Inc. Joe has over 20 years of finance and accounting experience. Joe mentors starting entrepreneurs for the EforAll program, held in the SouthCoast. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, with honors, from the University of Massachusetts. He holds an MBA and MSF from Boston College, and is a Certified Public Accountant in Massachusetts. Joe also served in the US Navy and Naval Reserves.

Susan Rooks - Community Relations

Susan has worked as a corporate trainer in the U.S. and internationally for nearly 25 years, with the goal to help business professionals look and sound as smart as they are. In 1995, Susan formed Grammar Goddess Communication to offer workshops in three main areas: American grammar, business writing, and interpersonal skills, including DISC®. Each highly interactive program is designed to both remind and teach, and each program gives participants ways to improve their communication skills immediately, giving business pros what they need to succeed. Susan also offers editing / copyediting services for business materials such as annual reports, blogs, books, brochures, business plans, website content, and form letters.
